New Islington, Manchester
Old Mill Street is the main road through New Islington, Manchester's Millennium Community. The new lighting needed to help create a distinct identity and form the unifying spine of the remodelled street.
Background
Urbis supplied 22 Fernandez units, each fitted with a 250W SON-T lamp, which throws light into a 3.9m Condulux light conducting refractor. Supplementary lighting is provided by a 100W SON-T lamp, situated below the main refractor.
The extremely durable self-finish provided by the Corten steel ensures the columns will remain low maintenance.
The columns are installed to face alternately in the opposite direction, giving pedestrians an interesting view as they look down the length of the street.
