Regent Theatre, Stoke
The Regent Theatre is managed by the Ambassadors Theatres Group, and is an eye catching theatrical building. It re-opened to the public in September 1999, and is located right in the middle of Hanley's ‘Cultural Quarter’.
Stoke-On-Trent City Council decided to improve the night time aesthetic appearance of the theatre. As the theatre is a Grade I listed building, English Heritage issued the Council with strict guidelines as to where any new floodlighting units could be placed.
Background
There are 45 of Urbis’ Caravaggio units, each with 36 No high power LEDs, lighting the three façades. These are positioned around the exterior of the theatre in groups of three, washing the maximum area of the façade with an even distribution of light.
Nine be-spoke units, each with 12 high power LEDs, are also carefully placed on top of the lettering spelling the word ‘THE REGENT THEATRE, with up to another 12 mounted inside the letters to illuminate them at night. The Caravaggio units are all supplied with 240V, and are controlled via a DMX control system linking to a stand alone control unit.
Urbis’ Caravaggio units also offer a long maintenance period. This proved a real advantage on this scheme as some of the floodlights are placed at high level, with no easy access. The durable LEDs units ensure that the number of times that there is a need to hire an expensive platform to reach them, is kept to a minimum.
Mike Keane, Managing Director of Ambassadors Theatre Group, commented on how impressed they are with the final product.
