Newcastle City Wall, Newcastle
Newcastle City Council asked Urbis to carry out lighting trials on Newcastle’s City Wall which was constructed in the 13th century. The trials revealed that Urbis’ Terra uplighter created the desired lighting effect.
Background
Terra units with 70 Watt CDM-T metal halide lamps were recessed into the ground adjacent to the wall. These throw up light that creates a warm glow on the face of the wall at night. Metal halide lamps with a cooler colour temperature were installed in the Terra units around the tower, this lighting allows it to be distinguish from the rest of the wall.
The lighting combination has given the wall a new look at night, and has made the area a more pleasant space to walk through.
